This Fig and Goat Cheese Crostini with Truffle Honey is perfect for entertaining even the pickiest guest. The crostini can easily be prepared in advance, for a simple and quick assembly just before your guests arrive.

Fresh figs are only around for a short period in time, near the end of summer. They are wonderful to use in appetizers, salads and desserts. Fresh figs also make great jams or chutneys. If you can get your hands on some fresh figs this time of year, I highly recommend you do so.

Fresh figs and dried figs have very different flavors and textures. If you think you are not much of a fig fan, and you've never had a fresh fig...you may want to try some fresh figs. Dried figs are very sweet and chewy. While fresh figs are slightly sweet, mildly acid and offer a nice fresh, seed- like crunchy texture, similar to very small poppyseeds. Fresh figs are unlike anything else, and you'll love them in this dish.

This Fresh Fig and Goat Cheese Crostini with Truffle Honey is easy to prepare while offering an incredible "wow" factor your guests will love. Tips for serving these Fresh Fig and Goat Cheese Crostini with Truffle Honey

*Plan on serving about 3 -4 toasts per person. More or less depending on the appetite of your crowd.

*You can prep the toast portion of the recipe a few hours in advance and leave them sealed in a tight container or plastic ziplock.

*Depending on where you live, figs are usually available for a short window sometime between July - October.

*Use a soft spreading and mild goat cheese for this recipe. Let the cheese come to room temperature before slathering it on the toasts. (I like Silver Goat from Trader Joe's)

*Truffle honey can be found in the cheese section at gourmet and specialty grocery stores. Or you can find it online here.

*If you can't find truffle honey you can mix a little truffle oil with honey. (3 tablespoons of honey to 1 tablespoon of truffle oil. (Truffle oil is also available at most specialty stores or online here) This works perfectly if you can't find truffle honey.

*If you aren't a fan of truffles you can skip the truffle and use plain honey instead.
